Content Management: File Upload (via browser and ftp)

MediaSilo Support Feb 23

MediaSilo provides three ways to upload media:

  1. Browser Upload - Available an all account level, browser based file upload supports  files up to 100MB. Click the red "Upload" button in any workspace, then browse for the files you would like to upload, add tags and select users you would like to be notified. Files will automatically appear in your workspace and video files will be viewable once they finish transcoding (a percentage indicator will appear on the thumbnail indicating that the file is still in the process of transcoding).
  2. FTP Upload - FTP upload is available on Hollywood and Enterprise accounts. Check your account type to make sure that you have access to FTP. FTP supports files up to 4GB in size.Choose your favorite FTP client (e.g. Transmit, Fetch, Filezilla - follow the simple instructions below to configure your FTP client). Once connected you will see a list of all workspaces/folders in your account. Select the workspace you would like your media to be uploaded in to and begin uploading. If you do not select a specific workspace/folder, your media will appear in the FTP Dropbox. Keep in mind that FTP drop boxes are unique for every account and that they are not shared.

MediaSilo stores the original file and creates a web-optimized proxy when possible. For video files, MediaSilo creates an proxy encoded at 768KB/s with a maximum with of 720 pixels and a height that corresponds to the aspect ratio. An HD file with dimensions of 1920x1080 will be converted to a 720x405 Flash H.264 file. When MediaSilo encounters image files such as TIFF, PSD, JPG, a 72 dpi proxy file is created; PDF documents are displayed as browsable images. Note: Audio only files are currently not supported. An future update will provide audio workflows.

You can by-pass the proxy creation for video files by uploading FLV encoded files. MediaSilo will not encode FLV files, giving you full control over the encoding quality.

You can upload media directly from Final Cut Pro or Sorenson to automatically transfer files when they are done compressing. Use the following login credentials to start uploading:

FTP Server: upload.mediasilo.com
Username: yourmediasilousernameyourmediasilohostname*
Password: yourmediasilopassword

* Your hostname is the prefix you type into your browser's address bar, i.e. creativeagency.mediasilo.com.
